Grinnell Mutual and FarMutuals Team Up for Haitian Relief Donation

Grinnell Mutual and its affiliated FarMutual® members have donated $20,000 to organizations including the American Red Cross International Response Fund as part of the international disaster response in Haiti. 

Grinnell Mutual’s President and CEO Steve Crawford presented contributions to Mary Dooley, director of the Iowa Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross.

“On behalf of the employees of Grinnell Mutual and the employees of our affiliated FarMutual members, we would like to express our sincere desire to assist the people in crisis in Haiti.  We thank the Red Cross in advance for putting this gift to work to provide immediate relief and long-term support for those in need,” said Crawford. 

Employees of Grinnell Mutual and the company’s affiliated farm mutual members raised $10,000 toward the donation.  Grinnell Mutual matched individual employee and mutual donations with a corporate gift of $10,000.

Vice President of Reinsurance Jim Chambers said that by working together, Grinnell Mutual employees, along with the men and women who make up the farm mutual insurance system, will be able to make an important difference to aid victim relief efforts.

“I’m pleased that our FarMutual partners and our employees worked so quickly to raise money to help those in need.  It demonstrates the benefits and power of collaboration,” said Chambers.  “The opportunity to maximize contributions through corporate matching funds allowed us to do even more through our donations.”

Senior Vice President of Underwriting Larry Jansen said that Grinnell Mutual employees have a long history of helping during such times of crisis.

“People who work at this company don’t hesitate to share with others in need,” said Jansen.  “I’ve been with this company for more than 30 years and I’ve always been impressed with the generosity of the staff of Grinnell Mutual and the people who manage our farm mutual companies.  As Midwesterners, they understand the importance of helping each other and they demonstrate what it means to lend a helping hand.”
