Grinnell Mutual named to Iowa Top Workplaces

Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company was named to the list of Iowa Top Workplaces 2011 in the September 18 edition of the Des Moines Sunday Register.  The Register, in partnership with WorkplaceDynamics, ranked Grinnell Mutual the 13th best large company to work for in the state. The list, which recognized companies in three categories based on size from across the state, was created based on feedback from employees.

Grinnell Mutual President and CEO Steve Crawford said the Top Workplaces designation is significant as it recognizes the role of employees in the success of the company.

“We would not be where we are today without the contributions, ideas, and work ethic of our employees,” said Crawford.  “This honor helps our customers realize that the services they receive from us are from committed and dedicated people working hard on their behalf.  After working here for 36 years, I know this honor reflects the pride and commitment our staff has to the company and its customers.”

The Des Moines Register along with WorkplaceDynamics invited 906 organizations (businesses, non-profits, and governments) to participate in the Top Workplaces process.  According to the paper, last spring, nearly 26,000 employees from 117 companies responded to the survey.

Grinnell Mutual Human Resources Director Linn Davidson said the company’s foundation as a family-oriented workplace is reflected in the Top Workplaces ranking.

“We recognize the importance of work-life balance here,” said Davidson.  “We want people to put in extra effort to serve our customers while having fun at work.  There has to be a balance.  We also strongly believe in developing individuals and we have many opportunities for all levels of staff.”

Located on the outskirts of Grinnell, Davidson cites the advantages of living between two metropolitan areas.

“Grinnell is a wonderful place to live and it’s within proximity of the Des Moines and Iowa City areas.  The community has many strengths, from the medical system, school district, and college, to the outstanding quality of life.  We have a number of professional and clerical positions now open and will have more in the future.  We hope that people who enjoy rewarding, challenging work in an environment that is respectful and fun will seek us out.”
