Grinnell Mutual partners with Poweshiek County Mental Health Center

Computer equipment from Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company found a new home at Poweshiek County Mental Health Center as part of Grinnell Mutual’s community outreach.  Earlier this year, Grinnell Mutual donated 10 desktop computers, 12 monitors, and two laptop computers to the organization for use by mental health clinicians.

“Our technology had been pieced together over years and was outdated.  For example, some staff waited five minutes for computers to start in order to complete paperwork.  The computers didn’t have capacity for regular software updates,” explained Poweshiek County Mental Health Center Executive Director Myke Selha.  “The new computer equipment from Grinnell Mutual has allowed us to increase efficiency and comply with newer confidentiality codes.  We are now in the process of changing to electronic records.”

Poweshiek County Mental Health Center is a private, non-profit organization accredited by the State of Iowa that provides mental health services to over 2,200 people in Poweshiek County and surrounding areas, including area nursing homes and Grinnell College.  They also maintain a 24-hour emergency hotline.

“Grinnell Mutual values the relationships that are built through community involvement, collaboration, and assistance.  When there is a need within the community, we strive to provide the support that we can give. Whether it is products and services, financial assistance or volunteer workers, we want to offer our resources.  Providing computer equipment is one way we can collaborate with an important resource in our community such as the Mental Health Center,” said Grinnell Mutual Manager of Advertising and Community Relations Barb Baker.
