As the director of commercial lines for Iowa and Wisconsin, I’m responsible for the commercial underwriting process from planning and organizing to controlling the objectives of our department. To achieve those objectives, it takes a coordinated effort of all the underwriters who accept or modify acceptable risks written through our direct lines agencies. In short, our goal is to maintain a profitable book of business and thereby support our FarMutual® members.
Without question, I like working at Grinnell Mutual because of the people. Besides, where else can a person have a professional career in the middle of a corn field! I’m grateful to be able to raise a family in a small town yet work for an insurance company that is not in a larger city.
One thing you’ll find at Grinnell Mutual is opportunity. After all, we’re part of a company that has provided a century of insurance. At Grinnell Mutual, I’ve been able to attain the CPCU, CIC, and AU designations. These accomplishments increased my knowledge of the industry and provided me with many opportunities, such as my current position as well as the Grinnell Subchapter of Iowa CPCU President in 2008-2009.
My favorite past time over the years has been my involvement with basketball whether it was coaching or officiating. It is a great way to get involved in the community yet spend time with my family during the cold Iowa winters. Another favorite is golf. That’s my personal “brand”!
