Working Together Making it Better
The people who live in our rural marketplace work hard to make their communities vibrant. They work together serving on boards, volunteering, coaching, and fundraising. Though their efforts they make their communities better. Working Together Making It Better is our way of celebrating “community.”
Your local fairground is a gathering place for your community. Through the year it hosts a little bit of everything, from homemade crafts to tractor pulls. Many fairgrounds show signs of how well they are used and their resources focus on fixing the most critical repairs for their buildings and grounds. The Fairground Facelift is our way of celebrating the ways your local fairground brings your community together.
Six on-site blood drives are hosted at Grinnell Mutual each year. As a result of our efforts, Grinnell Mutual was given the Executive Red Ruby Award, the highest honor from the Blood Center of Iowa for employee participation.
Partners in Education
For 30 years, Grinnell Mutual has been the Partner in Education with the Grinnell Middle School by providing volunteers, resources, and financial support to the students, faculty, and staff.
Christmas Share Program
Grinnell Mutual and its employees partner with Second Mile and Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA) to help others throughout the holidays. During a two month fundraising drive, employees donate non-perishable food, toys, gifts for men and women, and personal care items. Children of less fortunate families can go to Second Mile to choose and wrap a special gift to give to their loved ones for Christmas. With the help of MICA, non-perishable food donations are distributed to local food banks in Poweshiek County. Learn more about our partnership.
Badge Day Fundraisers
Each year, Grinnell Mutual supports local organizations by collecting donations from employees in exchange for a blue jean casual day. These organizations, which are nominated by employees, include Relay for Life, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Step up for SIDS, CPCU Society, Susan G. Komen, ALS Association, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and many more. The Grinnell Mutual Group Foundation donates up to $500 to each organization along with the money raised by the employees. Each organization receives close to $1,500 in donations.
Toys for Tots
For 65 years, Toys for Tots, the U.S. Marines, and their volunteers have been delivering toys to American's less fortunate children at Christmastime. Grinnell Mutual and its employees work each year to aid in this great cause by donating new, unwrapped toys. These toys are distributed, as needed, throughout Poweshiek, Jasper, Marshall or Mahaska county by the Des Moines area USMC Reserve Unit.

Grinnell Mutual Family Aquatic Center
In 2008, Grinnell Mutual celebrated its centennial year by pledging $750,000 to build and maintain the Grinnell Mutual Aquatic Center, a recreational facility that benefits not only Grinnell citizens, but people from nearby communities. The ongoing corporate gift, which helped the fundraising campaign reach its midway point, was bolstered by generous donations from Grinnell Mutual employees, adding nearly $50,000 in additional funds. Offering a lap pool, lazy river, zero-depth entry, and two waterslides, the family destination serves as a beacon of Grinnell Mutual’s commitment to giving back to its hometown and fostering a better tomorrow for all ages.
Grinnell Mutual strives to be a good corporate citizen - in our own community, the surrounding communities, and the communities of our employees. We provide financial support, products and services, and volunteers for community events. In addition, employee drives are held throughout the year to collect donations for the local food pantries, school supplies, disasters, fundraisers and charities.
