Scott's Story

Name: Scott
Job Title: Manager of Claims
Years at Grinnell Mutual: 25
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, University of Dubuque
Professional Designations: Certificate in General Insurance (INS), Associate in Claims (AIC)
As a claims manager, I oversee both telephone and field adjusters. It’s my job to coordinate our monthly schedule in order to cover my unit’s field territories and to back up other field adjusters who may be on vacation.
Preparation for my current role began on a Grinnell area farm where I grew up. That’s where I learned the value and satisfaction of working hard to complete necessary tasks. When I joined Grinnell Mutual in 1983 as a claims trainee, I benefited from Grinnell Mutual’s extensive claims training program that taught me fundamental skills I would need to succeed in the claims department. Lastly, I gained valuable people skills, which I use daily, during my many years of coaching in the Grinnell school system.
I’m glad to work at Grinnell Mutual, a place where employees take pride in serving our customers. We just celebrated our 100th year of service. I remember our 75th celebration too. What’s more, Grinnell Mutual is family-friendly and community-minded. I think our company has the right priorities. We’re a leader in the Poweshiek County area, and employees are encouraged to be active leaders in their respective communities.
My wife and I have 4 children. Most of our time centers around following their activities and athletic events. I am also an assistant football coach at Grinnell High School and am the head varsity boys' basketball coach. I serve on the board of our little league baseball and softball program and am also very active in the Grinnell United Methodist Church.
