A.M. Best issues ‘A’ rating, stable outlook for Grinnell Mutual

A.M. Best has affirmed an “A” (Excellent) Financial Strength Rating for Grinnell Mutual. The “A” rating and stable outlook for the future apply to both Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company and Grinnell Select Insurance Company (GSI). Grinnell Mutual has received a “A” rating since 1991.

“Our results are a testament to the work of our employees and the relationships we have with our agents, mutuals, and policyholders,” said Dave Wingert, COO and acting president. “We had a challenging year in 2017 so as we position ourselves for the future, these ratings show our members, agents, and policyholders our financial strength.”

A.M. Best is considered the gold standard for assessing property-casualty companies’ financial stability.

“The positive outlook reflects the group’s improved operating performance in recent years due to significant improvement in underwriting practices on the assumed book of business,” said A.M. Best. “Grinnell Mutual maintains a well-established market position as a leading reinsurer of farm mutual insurers in the Midwest region of the United States.”
