A.M. Best issues ‘A’ rating, stable outlook for Grinnell Mutual

A.M. Best has affirmed an “A” (Excellent) Financial Strength Rating for Grinnell Mutual. The “A” rating and stable outlook for the future apply to both Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company and Grinnell Select Insurance Company (GSI). Grinnell Mutual has received a “A” rating since 1991.

“Grinnell Mutual had an exceptionally strong financial performance during 2018,” said Jeff Menary, Grinnell Mutual’s president and CEO. “Our performance over the last five years is a reflection on the outstanding efforts of our dedicated employees. Our financial strength and stability allows us to provide unsurpassed service to our mutual members, agents, and policyholders.”

A.M. Best is considered the gold standard for assessing property-casualty companies’ financial stability.

“Grinnell’s balance sheet strength level reflects the group’s strongest level of overall risk-adjusted capitalization, conservative investment portfolio, favorable liquidity, and prudent reserving practices,” said A.M. Best. “The group has generated surplus in each of the past five years, resulting in reduced net and gross underwriting leverage measures.”
