Grinnell Mutual Campus Update

Grinnell Mutual has always valued and nurtured its role in Grinnell-area communities. We’ve been headquartered in Grinnell since 1935, and our commitment to the people, businesses, schools, and non-profits in the Grinnell area remains central to who the company is.

“The city of Grinnell has been home for us and in our name for over 90 years,” said Grinnell Mutual President and CEO Dave Wingert. “Supporting the community and key initiatives like the hospital, local schools, and food insecurity have always been and will continue to be top commitments for us.”

In fact, in 2025, the Grinnell Mutual Group Foundation (GMGF) supported numerous Grinnell-area non-profits, investing more than $240,000. In the first half of 2026 alone, the Foundation announced a gift of $225,000 for enhancements to the new Grinnell Elementary school, and a $50,000 grant to the Iowa Health Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center in Iowa City, a valuable resource for area residents and the state of Iowa.

“Grinnell Mutual continues to shine through its investments and leadership in the Grinnell community," said Rachael Kinnick, president and CEO of the Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce. “From their philanthropic generosity to their reimagining of their physical presence, the Grinnell community has been, and will continue to be, a better place because of their community-minded spirit.”

There have been many changes to our workforce in the years since the COVID-19 pandemic and we are thinking about our future as the largest reinsurer of farm mutuals in the country, and how best to use our assets. Now, more than 90 percent of our employees work remotely, leaving a large building mostly empty, so we are assessing our building and grounds needs while being mindful of costs and maintaining flexibility for our employees.

In January we announced our intention to explore options for our campus, and we will be listing our home office for sale or lease, just one of the options that we are still considering. But “No matter what the end solution for our campus is, we remain committed to maintaining our connection with Grinnell,” Wingert said.
