Grinnell Mutual Group (GMG) Foundation recently presented the New Sharon Fire & Rescue Association $10,000 toward the purchase of a new ambulance. New Sharon’s Emergency Medical Response (EMR) team has 14 volunteers who serve more than 575 square miles and responded to 200 emergency and assistance calls in 2016. A new diesel 4x4 ambulance will replace an aging vehicle that struggles to meet the needs of the department and its patients.

The GMG Foundation recognizes the need to provide area residents and communities with quality protective services. “The health and safety of our employees and their local communities is extremely important to us. The GMG Foundation focuses its grant-giving toward enhancing these services and we are pleased that our funds will be used to purchase a new ambulance in New Sharon,” said Larry Jansen, GMG Foundation president and Grinnell Mutual president and CEO.

Michelle Cooper, an Advanced EMT with the New Sharon EMR and farm casualty underwriter at Grinnell Mutual, submitted the grant application to GMG. “We thank Grinnell Mutual for its generous donation. It made a huge dent in our total fundraising goal of over $130,000.”
