Policy cancellation moratorium for the state of Indiana

On Aug. 17, 2026, the Indiana Department of Insurance issued Executive Order 26-21, Bulletin 280, which institutes a 60-day moratorium for cancellation or non-renewal of any insurance policy due to the failure to pay premiums for any policyholder directly affected by severe storms and flooding that occurred on Aug. 11, 2026. Any penalty for late payment of premium should also be suspended. The moratorium does not waive premiums; amounts owed will ultimately need to be paid.

This moratorium will last 60 days from the signing of Bulletin 280 which was Aug. 17, 2026. The Department expects insurers to apply this moratorium retroactively to the day before the disaster events occurred. This means the moratorium is in effect Aug. 10 – Oct. 10, 2026.
