What is Fairground Facelift?

Fairground Facelift is our way of supporting your hometown and the pride you and your neighbors take in it. County fairgrounds celebrate family, friendship, and relationships — the stuff that matters. That’s why we want to be part of sustaining them for future generations.

Does your county fairground have a critical repair that needs financing? An improvement project? A dream in the works that needs a push? We’re giving away a total of $7,000 to five county fairgrounds to help their fairground improvement projects come to life.

How do I submit a project to Fairground Facelift?

Visit the Fairground Facelift app section on Grinnell Mutual’s Facebook page, review the rules, and then tell us about the fairground project you’d like to nominate, along with your contact information. After that, review your information and click the ‘Submit’ button. You can also access a version of the app on Grinnell Mutual’s website. The more information you submit, the easier it will be to determine which projects should be finalists.

When are Fairground Facelift project submissions due?

The submission period for the 2018 contest is July 17–Aug. 27.

What types of projects can I submit?

Submit any project that would help improve your local fairground. The project must have (or affiliate with) a fairground located in one of the states in which Grinnell Mutual does business: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Please note that state fairgrounds may not be entered. Visit the official rules for complete eligibility information.

What makes an effective submission?

The most effective submissions demonstrate a clear need and have supporting facts and information that can convince judges and voters that the project is valuable and viable. Remember that Fairground Facelift grants range from $1,000 to $3,000. A project where the grant will make a real impact may fare better than a huge capital campaign (e.g. building a new exhibition hall). People want to know that the money will make a difference.

Also, it’s worth your time to submit a high-quality photo, which can illustrate the need clearly or its status if it’s a project already in progress.

I keep trying to submit a project, but it won’t go through. Am I doing something wrong?

Double-check to make sure all the fields are filled out properly. All questions marked with an asterisk (*) are required. Please note that some fields on the form have a character limit. If you need assistance, please contact socialmedia@grinnellmutual.com.

How many projects will receive grants?

Five. After the entries are narrowed down to 15 finalists, Facebook users will vote to determine the winners. The top vote-getter will receive a $3,000 grant. The next four places will receive $1,000 grants.

How will I know if my project is a finalist?

Entrants who submit projects to Fairground Facelift will be notified by email about the status of their projects. Once the finalists are determined, they will be notified by email.

Will I continue to be associated with my project if it’s selected as a finalist?

Your name may accompany the project description once it goes to the voting round. Additionally, we hope that you will help recruit votes and promote your project so it can receive a grant.

What can I do to promote my project if it’s selected as a finalist?

Share your project on your Facebook News Feed and invite your friends to vote on Grinnell Mutual’s website or Grinnell Mutual’s Facebook page.

Who can submit a project?

Anyone with a Facebook account may submit a fairground project.

May I submit more than one project?

Yes.

Who decides which fairground projects receive a grant?

You and your friends! Facebook users will vote for the fairground projects they believe are the best projects for Fairground Facelift.

What does Grinnell Mutual look for when reviewing my submission?

The finalists will be chosen based on meeting a need and on the project’s ability to leave a lasting impact on the community. Visit the official rules for more information about how entries will be judged.
