Eligibility

The Fairground Facelift promotion is open to fairground organizations operating a county fairground [“fairgrounds”] located in any of states in which Grinnell Mutual does business: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Eligible fairgrounds may be nominated by legal residents of the United States who are 13 years of age or older at time of nomination.

This offer is void where prohibited or restricted by law and subject to federal, state, and local laws. Entrants accept the conditions stated in the rules and agree to be bound by the decisions of Grinnell Mutual. Grinnell Mutual employees are ineligible to submit a project.

How to enter

Nominations may be submitted from Tuesday, July 11, 2017, midnight CT through Thursday, August 22, 2017, 11:59 p.m. CT. Submissions must be in English.

To submit a nomination, you must visit the Fairground Facelift promotion page hosted on the Grinnell Mutual’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/mygrinnellmutual) to fill out the application form and accept the promotion rules. By filling out the form, you agree to abide by the promotion’s Official Rules.

At the time of submission, you will be required to designate a fairground to act as administrator of the grant. The fairground or its parent organization, and not the entrant, is eligible to receive a grant in the promotion. State fairground projects will not be accepted.

Selecting finalists

A team of Grinnell Mutual employees will review and score the submissions on a rolling basis, beginning on the first day of submission, and running approximately one week after the close of submissions. They will select up to fifteen (15) final entries that will be featured on the Grinnell Mutual Facebook page for public voting.

Employee reviewers will score applications based ONLY on the criteria below. No entry will be discriminated against based on grammar, verbiage, etc. given to the answers to any of the questions in the application. nor based on any factor other than the three (3) criteria listed under “Scoring rubric and weighting” below.

Nominees selected as finalists will be asked to submit an image of the fairground project. As part of their participation, finalists’ photographs become and remain the property of Grinnell Mutual. Finalists grant Grinnell Mutual an irrevocable, perpetual license to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of the photograph.

By entering this contest, the entrant represents and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, privacy rights, or intellectual property rights of any person or entity and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.

Scoring Rubric and Weighting

Each of these three (3) criteria will be scored with a maximum 10 points per criterion, to determine a total score with a maximum possible score of 30.

  1. How does your project focus on an unmet need for the fairground?
  2. How would you use funds to address the need?
  3. What would be the project’s lasting impact on the fairground and for the people who use the fairground?

Grinnell Mutual will verify that each of the finalists is associated with a fairground or parent organization.

All entrants will be notified of their submission status via email to the email address included in the submission, on or about Sept. 7, 2017.

Public Voting

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, noon CT, anyone with a Facebook account is eligible to vote for a project. Each Facebook user is limited to one (1) vote per day. Voting will close Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, 11:59 a.m. CT.

Voting Mechanism

Grinnell Mutual will post images of the finalists on its Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/mygrinnellmutual). To vote, “Like” the image associated with the fairground project for which you want to cast your vote. Users may vote once per user per day. Grinnell Mutual will only tabulate votes received on the images posted on its page. Grinnell Mutual is not responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the voting and entrants agree that Grinnell Mutual is not liable for any malfunctions, inaccuracies, or errors related to the voting or voting process.

Selecting winners

The five projects earning the highest number of votes by Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, 11:59 a.m. CT will be designated the winners of Fairground Facelift grants. The project with the highest number of votes will receive a $3,000 grant. The projects finishing second, third, fourth, and fifth place in voting will each receive a $1,000 grant.

Notification of winners

The winners will be notified by Grinnell Mutual by telephone or email using the contact information included in the application. Grinnell Mutual is not responsible for unsuccessful attempts to notify winners. If a selected winner is ineligible, or if a winner fails to return the necessary forms within seven days and accept delivery of the prize, then the prize shall be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner selected from among all remaining eligible entries via a manner at the sole discretion of Grinnell Mutual.

Permission to publicize

Except where prohibited by law, by submitting an entry, the entrant agrees to permit Grinnell Mutual, its affiliated companies, and sponsors to use the entrant’s likeness, voice, and statements in any medium of communication, including but not limited to print, Internet, radio, and/or television for any purpose, including advertising, promotional, or other purposes without additional compensation in reference to this promotion.

Release of liability

By accepting a prize, the winners agree to release Grinnell Mutual and its affiliated companies, subsidiaries, divisions, and respective directors, employees, officers, and agents, including without limitations any advertising or promotion agency, from any liability, loss, or damages arising from the receipt, or use or misuse of the prize or prize-related activities.
