Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company (Grinnell Mutual) official rules

Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company is the official sponsor of the Fairground Facelift promotion. Grinnell Mutual’s contact information is: 4215 Highway 146, PO Box 790, Grinnell, Iowa 50112, 800-362-2041.

The Fairground Facelift promotion is open to nonprofit fairground organizations operating a county fairground [“fairgrounds”] located in any of states in which Grinnell Mutual does business: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Fairgrounds that have received a Fairground Facelift grant in the past three (3) years are ineligible.

This offer is void where prohibited or restricted by law and subject to federal, state, and local laws. Entrants accept the conditions stated in the rules and agree to be bound by the decisions of Grinnell Mutual. Grinnell Mutual employees are ineligible to submit a project.

How to enter

Nominations may be submitted between Tuesday, June 29, 2021, and Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, 11:59 p.m. CT. Submissions must be in English. The nominator must be at least 18 years of age to nominate a fairground and may submit only one nomination.

To submit a nomination, you must fill out the application form. A link to the application form will be available on Grinnell Mutual’s website, grinnellmutual.com. By filling out the form, you agree to abide by the promotion’s Official Rules.

At the time of submission, the nominator will be required to designate a fairground to act as administrator of the grant. The grant will be awarded to an eligible fairground or its parent organization, subject to the rules, and not to the nominator. State fairground projects will not be accepted.

Selecting finalists

A team of Grinnell Mutual employees will review and score the submissions on a rolling basis, beginning on the first day of submission, and running approximately one week after the close of submissions. They will select up to fifteen (15) final entries.

Employee reviewers will score applications based ONLY on the criteria below. No entry will be discriminated against based on grammar, verbiage, etc., used in the answers to any of the questions in the application, nor based on any factor other than the criteria listed under “Scoring rubric and weighting” below.

Nominees selected as finalists will be asked to submit an image of the fairground project. As part of their participation, finalists’ photographs become and remain the property of Grinnell Mutual. Finalists grant Grinnell Mutual an irrevocable, perpetual license to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of the photograph.

By entering this contest, the entrant represents and warrants that the submitted photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, privacy rights, or intellectual property rights of any person or entity and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.

Grinnell Mutual reserves the right to make any and all selections for finalists and such decisions are final.

Scoring rubric and weighting

Each of these four (4) criteria will be scored with a maximum 10 points, to determine a total score with a maximum possible score of 40.

  1. How does your project meet a need for the fairground?
  2. How would the funds be used to address the need?
  3. What would be the project’s lasting impact on the fairground and for the people who use the fairground?
  4. Has the fairground ever received a Grinnell Mutual Fairground Facelift grant?

Grinnell Mutual will verify that each of the finalists is associated with a fairground or parent organization.

All entrants will be notified of their submission status via email to the email address included in the submission, on or before Aug. 24, 2021.

Based on these scoring rubrics, up to15 finalists will be selected by a Grinnell Mutual panel, and those finalists will be eligible for public voting to determine the winners.
